At OIC, we love our volunteers. If you’re a student who wants to learn more about the world of healthcare, we encourage you to become one. Our student volunteers come from several high schools and colleges throughout the city including Orthopaedic Medical Magnet High School, Loyola High School, USC and UCLA. All high school, undergraduate, graduate and professional school students are welcome to join our team of volunteers.

  • Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age and must commit to a minimum of 100 hours per year.
  • All volunteers must provide documentation of a recent TB test result (from within the last 90 days). If you have not fulfilled thisrequirement, the Volunteer Department will arrange for you to receive a TB test through our Urgent Care Department at no charge to you. If you prefer, you may see your own primary care provider but the cost is then your responsibility.
  • All volunteers must attend an orientation and training session where you will learn the history and mission of the Orthopaedic Institute for Children, receive important information about Fire Safety, Patient Confidentiality, Infection Control and learn about the available volunteer placements. Please call the Volunteer Department to schedule an orientation. Volunteer Orientations are held one time per month; please call or email for Volunteer Orientation date information. There is no Volunteer Orientation in the months of April, August, November, or December. There is a special Youth Volunteer Orientation held every June, to prepare for the summer youth volunteer program. Contact the Volunteer Services Department for the exact dates of orientations.
  • Prior to Volunteer Orientation, a telephone interview with a member of the Volunteer Department will be arranged where you will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one regarding your interests in volunteering.
  • Volunteers must be available to schedule volunteer hours Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. There are no weekend or evening volunteer opportunities available.
