Bowing of the legs is seen in a child when there is increased space between the knees with the feet together and facing forward while standing. The bowing may be in one leg or in both. It is especially noticeable while the child runs. This is very common during toddler years and is occasionally seen in adolescents who are typically overweight.

Ana's Story

After Ten Years of Dreaming – Ana’s First Dance

DONATE TODAY

For a little girl who can barely stand or walk, dancing may seem an impossible dream. Yet OIC donors were able to fulfill this dream for Ana Gil, who was born with a rare disease that causes extreme bow legs.

Between ages 4 and 14, Ana received a number of surgeries and consistent medical care at OIC that helped straighten and strengthen her legs and changed the course of her life. This care was provided to her family at no cost, thanks to the generosity of our donors.

Now, as she turns 15, Ana is coming of age in her culture, and one of the special celebrations of this birthday is a first dance.

Ana asked to have that dance with her surgeon, Dr. Anthony Scaduto.  Please join Ana in her first dance.

For children who need care and whose families can’t afford it, your gift is a lifeline. And your support of the OICare for Kids Fund helps children immediately. Please consider making a gift to OIC now.

OIC invites you to share your first dance – or any dance that is special to you – with our OIC family by posting a photo, video or words to our Facebook or Instagram pages, under the hashtag #oicdances.
