Fuhu Inc Donates Nabi Tablets to Help Kids Prepare for Surgery

FUHU INC DONATES NABI TABLETS TO PATIENTS AT ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE FOR CHILDREN

Donation from Technology Company Used to Prepare Kids for Surgery

LOS ANGELES, CA (May, 2015) – Holiday gifts donated by Fuhu, Inc., are making a lasting and positive impact on patients at Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC). In December 2014, the company donated dozens of its award-winning nabi tablet – the world’s first Android tablet for kids – to patients at OIC’s downtown Los Angeles location. A few tablets were also left with the OIC staff, to help them keep young patients entertained during visits. While the patients often use the tablets to play games, the staff at OIC now use two of the tablets as vital educational tools for parents and children.

Each nabi tablet includes Spanish and English versions of a preoperative patient guide video, which was developed by OIC’s alliance partner UCLA Health. The 13-minute videos are used to inform families about the process of pediatric orthopaedic surgery. They address common questions that parents often have when preparing a child for surgery.

OIC physicians currently provide pediatric orthopaedic surgical care at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica. The opening of OIC’s Ambulatory Surgery Center in downtown Los Angeles next Spring, will allow the organization to provide outpatient orthopaedic surgical care to more children.

“Fuhu’s kind donation helps us to quickly address the concerns parents have once they learn that their child will need surgery. Our goal is excellent outcomes for every patient, and that starts with keeping our patients and their parents informed. Education is an important part of our mission, and it is great to have partners like Fuhu who support that mission,” said Mauricio Silva M.D., medical director of OIC.
